Michelle Hourigan
Clinical Psychologist (BA(Honours), MA(ClinPsych)
I am a Clinical Psychologist with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, and a member of the Australia Clinical Psychology Association. I engage in an open and compassionate style of therapy that utilises multiple evidence-based therapies and frameworks to help best address my client’s needs. I enjoy helping clients piece together all the unique threads of their lives and current difficulties, giving them a language to understand themselves and their experiences, and helping them build skills to start moving forward.
I have experience in both private practice and in public health sectors, having worked in several community mental health centers and inpatient units with clients struggling with acute, complex, and chronic mental health difficulties. I have experience helping clients with a range of concerns including stress, worry/anxiety, depression, emotional & behavioural regulation, anger management, psychosis, and complex trauma. I practice primarily within Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) frameworks.
I am originally from rural NSW and after 10 years of living and working in the city I still feel most at peace out in the country. So I am happy to offer bulk billing services to low income clients in rural areas to improve access to psychological counselling and support services for rural Australian’s.
