Natasha Lawson

Psychologist (BAPsych(Hons), GradDip(ProfPsych)

Hi, I’m Natasha.
I’m an AHPRA registered Generalist Psychologist with over a decade of experience in school and community settings providing supportive, non-judgmental, client-focused counselling to young adults and adults across a range of issues. I’m a member of AAPI and EMDRAA.

I have a genuine interest in assisting people to improve their wellbeing and increase their satisfaction with life. I aim to help clients identify their particular issues, explore their options, learn new strategies and skills, increase self-awareness and self-efficacy, and develop self-empowerment to bring about positive change.
We’ll work collaboratively to set and progress towards your goals and desired outcomes for our sessions, with clients being active participants in their therapy and outcomes.

My interventions approach is largely based in a combination of Humanism, Mindfulness, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy); each of these being evidence-based, effective, and highly versatile approaches that can be useful with many commonly presenting issues.

I also provide EMDR* (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) interventions. There is a large evidence base for the use of EMDR with PTSD and trauma (including acute stress or adjustment disorder), and growing evidence for its use with related issues such as other stress/anxiety based issues and depressed mood. Essentially, it can benefit those who have experienced distressing events in their past that are causing significant distress in the present.

My overarching goal is to help you develop new skills and perspectives and identify what’s important to you, so that you can live a life in which you experience meaning and joy.

* Please note that online delivery of EMDR may not be suitable for all clients/issues, and suitability is discussed/assessed throughout early sessions.
EMDR is delivered as one part of an overall therapeutic intervention and sessions begin with some of the above mentioned approaches (humanism, CBT, mindfulness, skill building etc) in preparation for any EMDR work.
